Our feedback on Malta’s Social Climate Plan
The jagged cliffs of the island are home to the Yelkouan shearwaters (Puffinus Yelkouan, MT: Garnija). This species of seabird is a regional endemic, breeding only in the Mediterranean basin. Almost 10% of the total population nests on the Maltese Islands, of which around 150-220 pairs are estimated on Kemmuna.
Community Assembly at Manoel Island
On Saturday 24 May, Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) organised a Community Assembly at Manoel Island as part of our “SOS Project – Save our Shores: Stop Wealthy Polluters”. This project highlights the issue of pollution and the appropriation of public coastal spaces by private interests and maritime industries that primarily serve the luxury sectors with significant environmental and social consequences.

Zero Waste Europe Holds Inspiring Annual Meeting in Montenegro
The Zero Waste Campaign Coordinator for Friends of the Earth Malta attended this year’s Zero Waste Europe annual meeting in Montenegro this month. About 60 people from all over Europe and one from the United States/Canada chapter of GAIA gathered to discuss the programs being put in place to reduce waste going to landfills and incinerators.

We are seeking the public’s support to appeal against the approval of PA/1640/20, which involves the relocation of a historic rural watchtower to make way for an unnecessary new road.
