About Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM)
Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is dedicated to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and public engagement. As part of a long-term restoration project on Comino, we are seeking a Project Manager to oversee the implementation of restoration work and regenerate ‘Il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna‘ into hub of sustainability which complements the protected island’s natural beauty, its historic value and educates the general public about why it’s worthy of protection.
Role Overview
The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the successful planning, implementation, and completion of restoration works. This includes overseeing the site development, coordinating infrastructure setup, and ensuring that all facilities are operational and meet required standards before opening to the public.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the implementation of restoration activities on-site, ensuring work aligns with project goals and timelines.
- Lead the design and planning of the interpretation centre, ensuring it serves as an educational and visitor-friendly space.
- Supervise the facility setup, ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and operational standards.
- Conduct regular site inspections, troubleshooting any issues that arise during development.
- Liaise with stakeholders, including project funders, partners, and regulatory bodies, to ensure smooth project execution.
- Work closely with the FoEM team to coordinate and allocate resources effectively.
Skills & Experience Required
- Strong project management experience, preferably in environmental restoration, site management, or conservation projects.
- Knowledge of public procurement processes, including tendering and compliance.
- Experience with EU-funded projects, particularly in financial and narrative reporting (ERDF experience is an asset).
- Ability to manage budgets, resources, and deadlines efficiently.
- Experience in construction planning, infrastructure development, or interpretation centre design is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Malta’s biodiversity, ecology, and cultural heritage is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teams and external partners.
- Good computer literacy including advanced working proficiency in Excel and good communication skills with the ability to communicate financial matters to staff and other members of the NGO.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills.
- At least a degree level of education.
