Location: Based in Floriana, Malta.

Contract type: 1-year definite contract with the possibility of extension. This is a full-time position, but we are open to discussing flexible working hours.

About the Role

Friends of the Earth Malta (FoE Malta) is engaged in a variety of projects supporting its environmental campaigns. We are seeking a Finance Officer to assist the Finance Manager in managing project grants, overseeing the organisation’s operational budget, and handling financial matters. The Finance Officer will report directly to the Finance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the financial administration of project grants and provide budgetary guidance to FoE Malta Project Managers.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager on finance and budget-related matters.
  • Serve as the finance contact for funded projects and provide financial management support to project partners when FoE Malta is the project coordinator.
  • Communicate with funding bodies regarding grants, responding to queries and requests for financial information.
  • Oversee and streamline financial reporting for projects.
  • Prepare and provide end-of-year financial reports.
  • Maintain accounting and reporting systems using Xero.
  • Manage payroll through Buddy, including processing and submitting FS5 and FS7 payments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of payments on behalf of the organisation.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive financial reports as needed.
  • Complete bank reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Develop and implement internal policies related to financial management, including tendering processes.
  • Prepare an annual projected cash flow and budget for the organisation.
  • Provide training to staff on procurement, budgeting, and financial processes to ensure consistency in project administration.

Skills & Experience Required

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar finance or accounting role.
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese financial regulations and relevant laws.
  • Alignment with the vision and values of Friends of the Earth Malta.
  • Highly organised, detail-oriented, and committed to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • A degree-level qualification in finance, accounting, or a related field.
