Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is looking for a Community Building & Fundraising Volunteer as part of our communications team. This is a European Solidarity Corp (ERASMUS+/ESC) volunteering for up to 1 year (positions of 6-11 months available), ideally starting from March/April 2025 till February 2026, although this can be negotiable. You will be working in collaboration with the FoE Malta team and will be line managed by the Communications Coordinator and Director. Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed as part of the ESC programme.

Throughout the years FoEM has remained true to its volunteering and activism roots and believes that building strong movements and alliances is crucial in achieving environmental and social justice. FoEM has worked with various marginalised communities, including migrants, deaf people, LGBTQI+ individuals, and other individuals with fewer opportunities.

Duties include:

You will be responsible for achieving the goals set for the duration of up to 1 year as part of our team, together with other staff members and volunteers. Due to the nature of our office environment, being dynamic and having a diverse set of skills is essential. Duties will include:

  • Organising volunteer meetings and encouraging active citizenship
  • Support with the planning and organising of FoEM events and workshops.
  • Support with the implementation of a fundraising strategy and internal policies.
  • Support with research into campaign funding, project ideation, development and writing.
  • Organise events for target groups that FoEM has not yet worked extensively
  • Develop relationships with communities, especially marginalised groups, and ensure that activities organised to allow space for people from diverse backgrounds
  • Support to build strategic partnerships with key stakeholders and communities.
  • Participate in FoE Europe network meetings.
  • Participate in NGO networking meetings to continue to develop links and solidarity work between various organisations
  • Develop actions and recommendations to ensure more synergies between FoEM and other organisations and specific communities.

Desirable Qualities & Skills:

  • Social skills necessary for collaboration, interpersonal effectiveness and relationship building
  • Methods for group building: participatory, leaderful, inclusive and collaborative
  • Organisational skills when developing fundraising timelines
  • Successful experience in fundraising for grassroots campaigns
  • Have excellent writing skills
  • Ability to map out wider active citizen networks and build alliances∙
  • New relationships with a wider European network working towards similar goals and objectives as ours, supporting the potential for future European collaborations.
  • Understanding of the history and theory of education for civic engagement, the nature and complexity of civil participation and social change
  • Ability to work in collaborative decision-making processes and have excellent people and communication skills.
  • Develop organisational skills
  • Tools to support participation and inclusion across communities

Qualifications:
The candidate should have at least a degree level of education. Knowledge of EU affairs and experience with EU projects will be considered an asset.

 The ideal candidate should:

  • Aged 18-30 (ESC requirement)
  • A citizen of one of the partner or programme countries
  • Strong interest in environment and sustainability topics
  • Ability to work in collaborative decision-making processes and have excellent people and communication skills.
  • Affinity with the vision and values of Friends of the Earth Malta.

The European Solidarity Corps programme will provide you:

  • Accommodation in a shared flat close to our offices in Floriana
  • Coverage of all living costs such as electricity, water, gas, and internet
  • Reimbursement of the flight and other transport to/from Malta, up to a certain limit
  • Monthly allowance
  • Private Henner insurance
  • In case of disabilities, funding is available for support (e.g. interpreters)
