Contract type: Full-time (reduced hours may be considered). 1-year definite contract with the possibility of extension.

Friends of the Earth Malta (FoE Malta) is seeking two passionate and experienced individuals to join our team as Campaigners/Project Managers. One candidate will join the Food, Agriculture & Biodiversity campaign, and one will join the Circular Economy & Resource Use campaign. 

The Role

You will be the leading campaign coordinator of the FoEM Food Agriculture & Biodiversity OR Circular Economy & Resource Use campaigns working alongside other team members. You will be responsible for achieving the goals set by our strategy document, overseeing the implementation of our action plan as well as developing the campaign area further together with your team. You will be working with the FoE Malta team and actively participating in the FoE Europe campaign working group. You will be a part of a small and dynamic NGO environment where flexibility and the ability to do a variety of work is important.

Duties:

  • Campaign Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive campaigns in line with FoEM’s Strategic Goals & Objectives.
  • Project Management: Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of campaign projects and initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Alliance Building: Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including government officials, NGOs, educational institutions, community groups, and the public.
  • Advocacy and Lobbying: Participate in policy consultations, provide policy recommendations, advocate for policy changes, and engage in lobbying efforts.
  • Research and Analysis: Analyse national and EU policies and legislation, conduct in-depth assessments, and stay informed about relevant environmental issues, trends, and developments.
  • Communication and Outreach: Collaborate with our Communications Team to create compelling content for various platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and press releases, to raise awareness and mobilise support for campaigns.
  • Event Coordination: Organise and facilitate events, workshops, and public forums to engage with the community and promote campaign objectives.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Monitor campaign progress, track key metrics, and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Campaign Funding: Support fundraising initiatives, including writing project funding applications for your specific campaign area.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with team members, volunteers, and partner organisations to maximise campaign impact and reach. This includes participating in FoE Europe working group meetings.
  • Assist in any other duties and projects managed by FoEM.

Essential Skills and Experiences

  • Affinity with the vision and values of Friends of the Earth Malta.
  • At least 2-3 years of experience in campaigning, project management, advocacy, or related fields in the environmental sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic campaign plans, including setting goals, identifying tactics, and measuring outcomes.
  • Experience in managing campaigns, including various responsibilities involved such as fundraising, reporting, research, planning, lobbying, or communications.
  • Experience in dealing with stakeholders from different backgrounds, such as decision-makers, NGOs, grassroots groups, activists, lobbyists, researchers, and media.
  • Experience in advocacy and movement-building tactics and strategies focused on environmental or social justice objectives.
  • Strong understanding of environmental issues, particularly in the areas of food, agriculture, biodiversity, and resource use, and the national context. Familiarity with EU and national policies and ability to distinguish between greenwashing and real solutions that lead to system change.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Organised and meticulous with a high degree of commitment.
  • Flexible and able to work on own initiative.
  • Motivation to exchange with and learn from colleagues.
  • Ability to think out of the box and find new creative ways to campaign.
  • Ability to work in collaborative decision-making processes and have excellent people and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage projects funded by the EU, national grants, or foundations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Knowledge and fluency in Maltese are desirable.

  • Salary range calculated pro-rata on €24,500 to €28,000 p.a. full-time equivalent based on experience.
