Role Title: Communications & Fundraising Officer

Location: Based in Floriana, Malta (Hybrid working model)
Contract type: 1 year definite contract with the possibility for extension.
Hours: 15–20 hrs/week (decision will be made following discussion with selected candidate).

The position is for a part-time employee to join the team, and priority will be given to individuals willing to be on an employment contract, however, freelancers are also invited to apply specifying this in the application.

The Role:

Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEMalta) is involved in various projects and campaigns which require support with their communications and events organising. The Communications and Fundraising Officer will be involved in FoEM communications team and will be able to grow their interest and expertise in the field. FoEM will offer the volunteer a unique opportunity to carry on an innovative set of tasks, allowing the chosen candidate to share their creativity and experience.

Duties include:

Communications:

  • Support with the implementation of a Communications Strategy.
  • Support in the development of effective communication campaigns through social and traditional media for various campaign areas, including the Climate, Food & Agriculture, Resource Use, and Comino. 
  • Keeping online media up to date including updating the FoE Malta website and other social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube & LinkedIn)
  • Assisting in writing press releases and statements and in generating coverage across traditional and new media for FoE Malta’s work
  • Organising and coordinating a calendar of events and keeping an accurate record for statistical and evaluation purposes
  • Designing FoEMalta’s printed and web-based materials including promotional leaflets, banners, logos and educational materials.
  • Preparing and distributing info materials at stalls, fairs, events and in other public activities to inform the general public about environmental issues in Malta and encouraging them to contribute as volunteers or supporters

Fundraising:

  • Support with implementing the Fundraising strategy.
  • Development of fundraising campaigns, fundraising material and sponsorship packages
  • Assist in writing of communication-related funding applications.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners and donors. 

General:

  • General tasks related to the day-to-day running of the organisation.
  • Travel on behalf of the organisation on work duties when necessary, especially FoE network communications coordination meetings. 

Skills & Experience

The candidate should have at least a degree level of education within the field of communications, graphic design, public relations, marketing or a related field. Fundraising experience is considered and/or experience working on EU projects will be considered an asset.

 Essential Requirements:

  • At least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role
  • Fluent in written and spoken English (native speaker standard), which is the working language for this post.
  • Excellent creative writing and editorial skills – able to convey complex environmental issues in an accessible through compelling narratives
  • Organisational skills when developing communication timelines and dissemination plans.
  • Experience of effective use of social media tools and ability to create engaging and shareable content (especially for Instagram and Facebook).
  • Experience in basic graphic design design (canva, Adobe suite)
  • Able to work under short deadlines and respond to urgent media demands
  • Ability to work in collaborative decision-making processes and have excellent people and communication skills.
  • Commitment to FoEM’s vision, mission and values regarding environmental and social justice

Desirable skills:

  • A strong background in photography, graphic design, videography or illustration 
  • Fluency in written and spoken Maltese at a native speaker standard.
  • Proven experience in developing and executing successful fundraising campaigns. 
  • Proficiency in web design and editing, with a preference for WordPress.
  • Experience using TikTok 
  • Experience communicating about Erasmus+ or other EU-funded projects will be considered an asset
  • Excellent public speaking skills

  • Salary range calculated pro-rata on 22,000 – 24,500 based on experience FTE
