Initiative launched as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction
Friends of the Earth Malta has launched its Plastic Free Pledge initiative as part of the European Week for Waste Reduction (EWWR) taking place in Malta and other EU countries.
Anastasia Finkel, project coordinator at Friends of the Earth Malta said “If we observe the waste pyramid, the foundation of tackling our waste problem is by reducing the generation of it. Considering that we do not have recycling facilities in Malta, all the collected segregated recyclable material is shipped abroad. This adds heavily to our carbon footprint.
There are many simple ways that you can contribute towards the reduction of plastic use. Refusing single-use plastic bags, not buying water in plastic bottles, and saying no to disposables such as plastic cutlery and packaging, are the easiest ways of not contributing to our waste generation.”
The EWWR is an initiative aiming to promote the implementation of awareness-raising actions about sustainable resource and waste management between the 18th and 26th of November.
Friends of the Earth Malta is now asking people to join the fight against excessive plastic consumption by taking the Plastic Free Pledge. Take the online pledge by visiting www.foemalta.org/plasticfreepledge
