Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) was recently part of a panel discussion during a national workshop of the ENgage project: ”Standards Supporting Circular Economy Initiatives” hosted by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (MCCAA).
The objective of the ENgage project is to engage more nations and their organizations in the development of EU environmental standards. Maltese and other European eNGOs can provide crucial contributions to ensure that standards are of benefit to the environment. Moreover, eNGOs help raise awareness among environmental stakeholders and society about the importance of environmental aspects in standardization.
FoEM is actively involved in the standardisation processes and was selected as the national point of reference for the ENgage project. Having one of its staff members participating in two Technical Committees at ISO (International Standards Organization) level, FoEM is aiming to increase its participation in standardisation.
Furthermore, we are currently in the process of becoming an Environmental Council of States (ECOS) partner. ECOS is an international federation of eNGOs with a network of members and experts advocating for environmentally friendly technical standards and therefore also one of the promoters of the ENgage project.
In the workshop, we shared our views on how environmental NGOs can give innovative long-term environmental perspectives when developing standards. For more information, click on the link here.
