This month, we had the privilege of hosting a transformative training
session as part of the Blooming Schools project. Over three enlightening
days, our project partners delved into the heart of environmental education,
exploring nature based learning and youth engagement initiatives.
Day 1
The training took us on an inspiring journey through local schools embracing
rewilding initiatives and wildlife gardens. These schools showcased the
power of nature to transform educational spaces into thriving ecosystems.
By integrating nature-based learning with STEAM subjects, educators are
making education not only engaging but also deeply impactful.
Participants witnessed firsthand the magic of wildlife gardens, learning
about their planning, design, and implementation processes. These gardens
serve as vital havens for local flora and fauna, nurturing biodiversity and
providing invaluable learning opportunities for students.
Day 2
But our exploration went beyond the classroom walls. Through immersive
activities, we connected with the local environment, forging a deeper
understanding and appreciation for the natural world. From observing local
wildlife to engaging in hands-on conservation efforts, every experience
reinforced our commitment to environmental stewardship.
Day 3
They visited the climate-resilient garden at FoEM’s Green Resource Centre,
gaining practical insights into sustainable gardening practices. A
beekeeping session provided them with firsthand experience, including
visiting the hive and harvesting honey, promoting bee conservation efforts.
Collecting seeds from plants for the next season ensured the continuation of
biodiversity, while the preparation of soil with compost enhanced the
fertility of the land.
The training didn’t just equip us with knowledge; it empowered us to take
action. Armed with new skills and insights, our partners are ready to deliver
high-quality environmental programs that inspire and educate youth.
The Blooming Schools project is about empowering and equipping young
people in secondary schools with right tools, competences and skills to
become environmental change-makers, raise awareness and take action
with a dutiful approach.
