What is Zero Waste Europe? ZWE is a network connecting 36 local and national NGOs all across Europe with one common goal - to achieve a zero waste future. We are happy to join this network, and as new partners we are open to new innovative ideas and inspiration from other organisations. As the climate emergency moves on closer, we have to play a role in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions and plastic pollution and waste have inherent climate impact. This network addresses these impacts and promotes the benefits of a zero waste lifestyle.

Calm-EY Launch
Climate change not only causes physical damage but also impacts our mental well-being! Climate worry, characterized by anxiety over the uncertain future resulting from worsening climate conditions, can lead to feelings of grief, anger, guilt, and shame, impacting mood, behaviour, and mental well-being. If left unaddressed, this anxiety can have significant negative effects on health.
To address this issue, we're launching the Сalm-EY project aimed at supporting young people and youth workers in managing and alleviating climate-related anxiety. Whether you're a young person struggling with climate worry or a youth worker looking to provide support, we'll be offering training sessions, support groups, and valuable resources such as self-help book. If you're interested in staying updated or joining our efforts to address climate anxiety, please fill out the short form via the link.

What is Social Permaculture, and how can it be used as a tool in mental health and care work? The Social PEAS (Social Permaculture: Empowering an Active Society) project was created to develop permaculture training for professionals working with vulnerable adults, such as people suffering from mental health issues, people with physical and intellectual disabilities, (former) drug or alcohol users, migrants, and elderly people. Learn more about social permaculture principles and practices to create resilient and sustainable communities at our Seminar on Social Permaculture

Let’s take a look back at last Saturday’s Community Garden session, which featured a Social Permaculture workshop this time, as it was the multiplier event for the Social PEAS project. Thanks to the 35 amazing participants who joined us in our community garden. Together, we dove into the heart of sustainability and connection. We prepared soil mix with recycled coconut coir and mushroom peat, sourced locally from farmers. Then, we planted different fruit trees to be able to grow and harvest a variety of fruits in the future, as well as seasonal veggies. We also added more endemic and climate-resilient plants to our herb garden, enriching our green space with diversity.

Typical Comino in summer is so dried up by the scorching sun that you’d think it impossible for anything to survive. Yet, it undergoes a striking multicolour transformation when vegetation starts coming back to life after the first rains of autumn. The seasonal change is best appreciated in the most widespread of habitats of Comino: the garigue (ix-xagħri).
Natural garigue forms in limestone areas and is characterised by low, often aromatic, hardy shrubs as well as some annual species and geophytes (plants with an underground bulb). This is a harsh environment where soil, shelter, and water are very scarce and only the best-adapted plants can survive the exposure to the elements and live off the most improbable patch of poor soil where different species often grow huddled together.

As the wheels of the Bike About project come to a gentle halt, it’s time to reflect on the journey we’ve had over the past year. Bike About wasn’t just about promoting cycling in Malta; it was about empowering people to use bicycles on Maltese roads and providing them with the required knowledge and resources. The first highlight of this adventure was purchasing an electric cargo bike—a game-changer in our quest for sustainable mobility. At various public events, we showcased the suitability of cycling for cargo transportation, carrying different loads, from material to a music speaker, to two children at a time!
