To bring environmental issues closer to young people in Malta, the project ''Be Active - Be Sustainable Malta'' was created for youths to relate to different environmental concerns found on a local and national scale. Due to great success and turnout, we created a an extra yet last session in June. For this, a gardening and cooking event was organized, teaching us more about sustainable cooking and preserving summer produce. Youths were taught how they can use wild plants in the kitchen and the importance of garden herbs and plants such as rosemary, sage and vine leaves. Adding herbs and natural plants into your seasonal dishes is not only environmentally friendly but it is also healthy and delicious.
Thank you all for attending our Be Active sessions, we truly loved to see so many youngsters with their curiosity and interest in the environment. Although this project has come to an end, we hope to see you soon at other events or at our weekly Yeah Youth Hub.

What does new European Agricultural policy promise to Malta’s sector?
Friends of the Earth Malta had held a workshop in June, organized for local media and journalists to understand the European policy better. This enables journalists to report more easily on the issue, increasing the frequency of information exchanged and higher engagement with CAP.
The new Common Agriculture policy uses one third of the EU’s budget and will distribute nearly €270 billion to over 6 million farmers from 2023-2027. It is a powerful piece of legislation that can make or break the goals of the Farm to Fork Strategy. With its reformed CAP, the EU promised a “greener and fairer CAP” that prioritises the three tenets of sustainability. In the workshop, there was space for journalists and media houses to engage with the implications of European Agricultural policy on the local farming sector, participate in discussion with experts in the field, and look at Malta’s own National Strategic plans for the CAP 2023 -2027 implementation.

Also known as the Arar Tree or the Alerce, it is a coniferous tree forming part of the Cypress Family and is easily identifiable thanks to its four-sided cones.
