In May, we joined forces with 7 other NGOs to organise Xebbajtuna a national environment protest demanding urgent environmental and planning reform that took place in Valletta. Crowds walked through Valletta, singing slogans to the sound of beating drums and holding placards reading ‘We said Green not Greed’, ‘Open spaces, stolen spaces’, 'Money is your God’, ‘Pigs without scruples,’ and ‘Zero enforcement’.
Thank you to everyone who participated! Find out more about our demands below

Plant of the month — Sea Bindweed (MT: Leblieb il-Baħar)
This very rare and protected Red Data Book plant is only to be found on sand dunes . The pink-white striped solitary flowers appear around summertime and with its dark green heart-shaped leaves may appear quite dainty and delicate but in effect it is very well adapted to growing in some of the harshest conditions. Alas, this resilience has not been enough to spare it from its local fate.

How is climate change connected to consumerism?
In May we hosted the third session of the Climate Early Erasmus+ Teacher Training. We discussed how much stuff we really need, to buy less and the myth of continuous growth that our economy relies on. The session was wrapped up with banner painting for Xebbajtuna national protest.

Renewable community energy in Malta?
Last month we organised a documentary screening of ‘We the Power’ followed by a discussion on Community Energy together with the Marsaskala Residents Network. The event was held at Jacob's Brew. Victor Fiorini from the Malta Co-operative Federation joined us for the discussion on how a renewable energy community might be set up in Malta after the documentary Malta needs to increase its share of renewables, and community energy is a great way to do so. We should be promoting the generation of renewable energy as well as democratising the energy system. Read our new blog post to find out more about the concept of community energy via the link
