About Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM)

Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is dedicated to environmental sustainability, biodiversity conservation, and public engagement. As part of a long-term restoration project on Comino, we are seeking a Project Coordinator to manage the operational and administrative implementation of restoration work at ‘Il-Forn ta’ Kemmuna’.

Role Overview

The Project Coordinator will be the central pivot for the Comino project, focusing on synchronizing multiple workstreams, managing procurement, and ensuring financial compliance. This role is designed to act as the administrative counterpart to our on-site technical and environmental staff. While the site team focuses on the physical restoration, environmental and facilities management, you will be responsible for the “behind-the-scenes” engine—ensuring that materials are procured, timelines are met, and reporting is seamless.

Key Responsibilities

  • Workflow Synchronization: Coordinate the diverse sub-projects within the Comino restoration, ensuring that office-based planning aligns perfectly with on-site implementation.
  • Logistical Support: Work in close collaboration with the technical site team to manage the procurement of materials, tool logistics, and contractor scheduling.
  • Financial & Narrative Reporting: Lead the documentation process for project funders, ensuring all progress is accurately recorded and budgets are tracked.
  • Procurement Management: Oversee tendering processes and supplier relations to ensure the project has the necessary resources to remain operational.
  • Operational Readiness: Coordinate the logistical setup of the interpretation centre and visitor facilities, ensuring they meet all safety and environmental standards.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Project Coordination: Proven experience in managing the administrative lifecycle of complex projects.
  • Collaborative Mindset: A strong ability to work within a team, providing the organizational structure and planning that allows technical and hands-on staff to excel in their roles.
  • Grant & Fund Management: Experience with EU-funded projects and public procurement.
  • Financial Literacy: Competency in budget tracking and the ability to communicate financial data clearly.
  • Problem Solving: A proactive approach to troubleshooting logistical challenges in a unique island environment.
  • Education: MQF level 6 or higher in a related field.
  • Note: While architectural or design experience is a plus, the core of this role is project management, coordination, and administration.

What We Offer

  • Salary: Approximately €24,000 per annum (pro-rata).
  • Impact: A lead role in a high-profile environmental project with a clear sense of purpose.
  • Flexibility: A supportive work environment based in Floriana with regular site visits to Comino.

How to Apply

Interested candidates should submit their CV and cover letter outlining their suitability for the role by 31st May 2026. Applicants are to send their application by filling in the online application form.
