Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is looking for a Communication and Fundraising Support Volunteer to join our team. This is a European Solidarity Corps (Erasmus+/ESC) volunteering opportunity for up to 1 year (positions of 6–12 months available), ideally starting as soon as possible.
As a volunteer, you will work closely with the FoEM team and will be line managed by the ESC Coordinator and Director. Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed as part of the ESC programme.
About the Role
FoEM runs several campaigns engaging diverse audiences including youth, farmers, decision-makers, and marginalised communities. This role combines communications and fundraising, allowing volunteers to support campaign visibility while helping secure the resources needed to sustain FoEM’s work. Volunteers will contribute to content creation, media outreach, event promotion, and fundraising research, while learning how communications and funding support long-term environmental advocacy.
Duties
Due to the nature of our work, being dynamic and having a diverse set of skills is essential. Your duties may include:
- Supporting communication campaigns across social and traditional media
- Maintaining and updating FoEM’s website and social media platforms
- Producing multimedia content such as videos, podcasts, and infographics
- Writing and editing press releases, articles, and public statements
- Designing printed and digital materials (leaflets, banners, educational resources)
- Supporting FoEM’s fundraising strategy and donor engagement activities
- Researching funding opportunities and assisting with grant writing
- Supporting the planning and promotion of events and public activities
- Networking with partners, NGOs, and community groups
- Maintaining media archives and outreach statistics
Desirable Qualities & Skills
- Interest in communications, media, or storytelling for social change
- Creativity and willingness to experiment with different formats
- Good writing and organisational skills
- Experience with graphic design, video, or social media management
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Interest in sustainability, activism, and social justice
Nice to have (but not essential)
- Interest in fundraising or NGO communications
- A portfolio of any communications
The ideal candidate should be/have:
- Aged 18-30 (ESC requirement)
- A citizen of one of the partner or programme countries
- Strong interest in environment and sustainability topics and self initiative
- Good organisational skills
- Affinity with the vision and values of Friends of the Earth Malta.
The European Solidarity Corps programme will provide you:
- Accommodation in a shared flat close to our offices in Floriana
- Coverage of all living costs such as electricity, water, gas, and internet
- Reimbursement of the flight and other transport to/from Malta, up to a limit
- Monthly allowance
- Private Henner insurance, if required
- In case of disabilities, funding is available for support
