Curious about how climate action, energy transitions, and sustainable mobility can make a difference on a small Mediterranean island like Malta?
Friends of the Earth Malta (FoEM) is looking for a Climate Campaign Support Volunteer to join our team. This is a European Solidarity Corps (Erasmus+/ESC) volunteering opportunity for up to 1 year (positions of 6–12 months available), ideally starting as soon as possible.
As a volunteer, you will work closely with the FoEM team and will be line managed by the ESC Coordinator and Climate Campaign Coordinator. Travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed as part of the ESC programme.
About the Role
You will be part of FoEM’s Climate, Energy and Mobility Campaign, which tackles urgent climate challenges through policy advocacy, grassroots work, and practical projects. This includes advancing sustainable mobility solutions (like promoting walking, cycling, and better public transport), challenging fossil fuel dependency, and supporting community-led renewable energy initiatives in Malta.
Your role will involve research, communications, advocacy, and community outreach, supporting both local mobilisation and contributions to EU-level climate discussions. Volunteers will gain practical experience in climate policy, campaign delivery, and environmental communication.
Duties
Due to the nature of our work, being dynamic and having a diverse set of skills is essential. Your duties will include:
- Supporting the delivery of the Climate Campaign Strategy and related projects
- Assisting with policy analysis, research, and advocacy on climate justice, energy systems, and sustainable mobility
- Helping write public consultations, and national and EU policy proposals and recommendations related to the campaign
- Assisting with press releases, newsletters, and social media content related to the campaign
- Organising and conducting public events, workshops, and training sessions
- Preparing and distributing information materials at events and community activities
- Developing campaign-related educational resources and material
- Assisting with fundraising research and project proposal writing related to the Climate campaign
Desirable Qualities & Skills:
- Interest in climate justice, renewable energy, or sustainable mobility
- Willingness to engage in research, advocacy, and public-facing activities
- Good organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Interest in sustainability, environmental protection, and social justice
- Confidence or willingness to learn public communication and advocacy skills
Nice to have (but not essential)
- Experience with policy research, communications, or campaigning
- Familiarity with climate or energy-related topics
The ideal candidate should be/have:
- Aged 18-30 (ESC requirement)
- A citizen of one of the partner or programme countries
- Strong interest in environment and sustainability topics and self initiative
- Good organisational skills
- Affinity with the vision and values of Friends of the Earth Malta.
The European Solidarity Corps programme will provide you:
- Accommodation in a shared flat close to our offices in Floriana
- Coverage of all living costs such as electricity, water, gas, and internet
- Reimbursement of the flight and other transport to/from Malta, up to a limit
- Monthly allowance
- Private Henner insurance, if required
- In case of disabilities, funding is available for support
