We have put together an interesting\, hands on edible educational program which gives a holistic view of farming and the food sector.\n\nLearning outcomes: how food is grown\, how to plan a garden\, prepare and preserve food\, understanding seasonality. Outings to farms to get an inside view to the agricultural practices in Malta. Great opportunity to enjoy the fresh air of the rural north west in Manikata\, engage as active citizens and learn through experience.\nThe workshop-series will be in 5 sessions  of 3 hours and can be viewed as a 15-hour course on food\, crop growing and the farming systems. \n\nCourse Outline\nAll sessions are currently planned on Saturday from 10:00-13:00 \n2nd November \n\nWelcome and introduction to Friends of the Earth Malta and The Farmoury\nFood sovereignty – Talk and discussion on local level\nCoffee Break\nHands on work in the field.\nPlanting of seeds and seedlings\n\n16th November \n\nIntroduction to Sustainable farming\nShort Video and Discussion\nOuting to Louis Cini (organic farmer)\nCoffee and chat with Farmer\nTour of the fields\n\n23rd November \n\nInjustices in food systems and food consumption\nVideo about monoculture Agrochemical industry\nCoffee Break\nFarm outing to Kaj Kaj farm in Manikata\nBeekeeper talk about the importance of biodiversity and bees\n\n30th November \n\nPlant and Growth Cycles\nHands on Work in the Field\nComposting\, cultivating and plant health\nCoffee break\nNatural Fertilizers and Pesticides\n\n7th December \n\nLocal and Seasonal Farm\nOuting to Natasha and Tony in Zebbug\nVisit of the farm/home of a modern farming family\nTrees\, shrubs\, local chickens\nFinal farm meal together.\n\nLocations\nAll sessions\, including site visits will start from The Veg Box in Manikata. These workshops are open for complete beginners to the more experienced in crop growing.
