How is FoEM making events greener?

If you’ve been following our work recently, you may know that we have a simple but ambitious mission: to make sustainable food the norm in Malta.
Food choices are not just personal choices. They are shaped by our food environments: what is affordable, what is promoted, what our friends eat, and what is offered to us at events, restaurants, and workplaces. Small changes in these environments can make sustainable food easier to choose and turn it into an easy, social, and enjoyable experience.

That’s exactly what we explored during our three-day ProCoast project meeting, where participants from across Europe were served fully plant-based catering throughout the event.
The result? People enjoyed the food, discovered new dishes, and showed that sustainability does not have to come at the expense of a great meal. Among the favourites were dishes from Heirloom Streatery (thank you, Justin!), alongside vegan pastizzi from Sphinx and meals from Balance Bowl.

Beyond the delicious food, the catering also had a measurable environmental impact. Our friends at Planted Society helped us calculate the greenhouse gas emissions, land use, and water savings associated with serving plant-based meals during the event.
Together, we enjoyed great food while reducing our environmental footprint.

Curious about the impact? Check out the report below!
